Emergency Kit and preparation

An emergency can strike at any time and in that case it is better to be prepared with the necessary gear to help one to survive the situation. The type of gear depends on whether the gear is for an office emergency, home, school or while travelling.

Using a New Whip Sensibly

Once you have got the new bullwhip it may be tempting to just go ahead and use it however you like and for as long as you like. If you are intending to use the whip soon after purchase there are certain things that you need to do to make sure that you don’t do irreparable damage to it. It needs to be used slowly and if you do this then there will be a lot of years ahead for you and your whip.

Taking Care of the Bullwhip

When a bullwhip is new it will be easy to think that there is nothing to do but start practicing with it. Unfortunately this is not the case as it is very unlikely that the shop will have kept up maintenance and kept it is the best of condition of the time that it has been sitting on their shelves. Once you get it home it will be up to you to start the protection regime that should keep the whip safe throughout the time that you are going to use it.

Small Repairs to A Bullwhip

If you damage your bullwhip it does not mean a parting of the ways or an excessive bill as there are plenty of day to day repairs that you will be able to carry out yourself.  If it is the end of the whip you are bound to fear the worst but it is really not that much to worry about as most whips tend to have problems with the fall. It may seem worrying when the fall is broken but when you consider the whole purpose of the fall is to make sure that the braided pieces do not get damaged, then it proves that it has  been doing  a good  job.

Putting a New Fall on a Bullwhip

A bullwhip is by and large used when it comes to training horses or other farm animals and while there is no reason to harm the animals there will be times when the whip gets broken. This will normally be because parts of it have come into contact with areas that they were not meant to touch or because they have not been properly looked after and as a result have become damaged.

Protecting the Braiding on a Bullwhip

When you realize that your bullwhip is no longer working at its best it does not mean that you will have to get rid of it or put it in for expensive repairs. With a little bit of care and effort a lot of them can be done at home and before you know it you will be using your favourite whip again. While you may not be punishing your whip in the ways that the cowboys used to, if you spend time practicing and then taking part in competitions or displays you will still be putting a lot of pressure onto the fall.

Looking after the Bull Whip

Once you have a bullwhip you will want to make sure that it is properly maintained as by doing this you will be sure that you will extend the life of your whip. It will always be the case that there are going to be accidents and you will have no control over them but with a bit of care you should be able to keep them to a minimum. Clearly you have no control over what happens if next doors dog jumps into the truck and has a good chew, but there are plenty of things that you can do to protect your whip.

How not to Damage your Bullwhip

Although there are a number of things you can do to look after a bullwhip and it is even possible to repair it if there has been a degree of damage the best thing to do will be to make sure that there is no damage in the first place.

Cleaning a Bull Whip

It is hard to know what to use when it comes to using the cleaning a bull whip and often it is considered to be enough to use moisturiser. While this may work in principle there is not a lot of evidence to show that it is one of the better products to use. It is true that leather will be protected by a softener but it is more usual to use something like saddle soap. Along with products that contain beeswax it will be best to use saddle soap as a way to keep it clean and supple.

Caring for a Leather or Nylon Bullwhip

Regardless of how a whip is made if it breaks it is going to be a problem. Some types might be easier to repair than others but whichever style you have it will be good to know that there are firstly things to do that will help prevent damage, but also that if caught early enough. A leather bullwhip is clearly going to need a different type of care than a nylon one, but there are things that they both need if you are going to keep it in the peak of condition.
