How not to Damage your Bullwhip

Although there are a number of things you can do to look after a bullwhip and it is even possible to repair it if there has been a degree of damage the best thing to do will be to make sure that there is no damage in the first place.
It is still possible to enjoy using the bullwhip but just be sensible about what you do with it. There are clearly things that are going to damage the whip so as long as you remember what they are and don’t do anything stupid you should have a long and happy time with it. From a safety point of view it will be best to keep children away from the whip and just think of what a dog could do if it got hold of it.
Using it on a rough surface will clearly damage the whip and even if it is the sturdiest and most easy part to replace that is damaged it is still going to take the shine if what you are doing. Using it on a tree is also going to cause damage as the bark may be brittle at times, but can damage the leather parts of the whip if it gets around the tree.
Always make sure that there is a cracker on the bullwhip. Forgetting about this is a guaranteed way to damage the whip. Another easy way to damage it will be to use target holders that have sharp edges.
If the leather whip has been damaged as a result of either not looking after is properly or an accident where is has got wet then there should be a rest period. If there is a creaking noise when you crack it or it does not seem to be as flexible as it once was then it should be put to one side until you have been able to
In the same way that there are certain rules for a leather whip, there are certain things that need to be done if it is a nylon whip. This still needs to be cleaned but it is vital that the water is not too hot and that only non acidic stain remover is used if there is the need to use one at all. Check it on a regular basis and untangle any knots that are appearing as they can get to a stage where it is not possible to undo them.
Remember how to store the whip as just keeping it clean is not going to be enough.  A leather whip should certainly not be kept in a dark, warm room and regardless of what type of whip it is it should not be allowed to sit in the sun.
